Pinewood Derby 2011

Ladies & Gentlemen…start your engines!!

Date: Friday January 28th, 2011

Time: Doors open @ 5:45pm  Race:  6:00pm ( 1st Time Trials @ 6:01) **Modified 1/19/20101 – We had to remove the extra time trial due to time contraints. ALL River Bandits & Huskies Cub Scouts must be at Registration by 5:45pm.

Location: Queen of Angels Gym, 4412 N Western, Avenue Chicago, IL 60625

RULES:

We have made some specific rule changes to account for the Adult Pinewood Derby to follow the Cub Scout race. The spirit of the Cub Scout Race is to allow the boys to “do their best” and create , design & build their own car as much as possible with full adult supervision, but limited adult “hands on” as much as possible. The Adult Derby is for those parents (both mom and/or dad) , grandparents,  brothers or sisters ( over 18 ) , friends, families, or anyone really interested in racing their newly put together pinewood car to the race ( see other post for race details) and allowing the boys to have their own models to say they actually built it.

The following PDF link contains the new rules, so please be familiar with them. http://www.chicagocubscouts.com/documents/pack3894_rules_2010.pdf

CHANGES:

This year we will have 21 “design” awards that the boys can target their concept and design ideas around to try and win this award. One award per boy per Pinewood Derby ( no chance of one boy winning more than one design award). We are working on a Pinewood Derby Judging Committee that falls outside the Parents, to make things fair for all. The races will initially have time trials ( 1 to 2 )  mixed up with older and younger boys racing at once. (Estimated) 3rd time trials will be by Den, where seeded places with slower boys race each other, and so forth to determine the Top 2 Den Representatives.  The Top Den representatives will square off for the Pack Trophy Cup, with 1st, 2nd & 3rd place awarded. The overall winner brings home a Pizza Party for their Den.

St Paul Christmas Caroling – Give Goodwill

We will be caroling at St. Paul’s House on Sunday, December 5, from 1 pm to 2 pm.  This facility is a retirement community for senior citizens who always look forward to see young kids on the holiday; so we want as many boys to show up and give goodwill.
Please be at St. Paul ’s by 12:30 so we can gather in the auditorium. The address is 3800 N. California .

Because we are a big group, we will not be wandering the hallways; instead we will be singing in the auditorium. The Girl Scouts may be joining us.
PLEASE we need a piano player to play for us while we sing traditional Christmas songs!

Before December 5, we need 100 cards to be made by our Pack. St. Paul ’s has 115 residents; our Den has already made 15 cards. If the other dens make at least 20 cards each, we should be fine.
This Pack night we hope to collect donations from parents to pay for the gifts we are giving the residents.  We will need help wrapping gifts on the 4th. A sign-up sheet for parents/scouts to volunteer will be available at the Pack Meeting; so please make sure you check in.

please Email Angie for any further questions or additional assistance.

Materials for the clean up will be provided by the National Alliance for the Great Lakes. They are sponsoring this event.
